This Fair Saturday, join tutor Jo Richardson and studio assistant Christopher Connarty for a family-friendly drop-in drawing session. Working from a fantabulous still life, you will have the chance to try out pencils, charcoal and pastels at the easel. Whether you stay for 3 minutes or 3 hours, you will be encouraged to experiment with your materials, turning ordinary objects into extraordinary drawings.
You will also have the chance to view Ben Davies-Jenkins' solo exhibition Not Dark Yet. Please note: This exhibition contains images and themes related to cancer diagnosis and medical journeys that some viewers may find upsetting.
Ben Davies-Jenkins has been a tutor at Leith School of Art for over 10 years, amassing a loyal following at his Thursday Evening Drawing & Painting the Figure course.
His solo exhibition, Not Dark Yet, is a collection of works centred around paintings and drawings made in response to the artist's journey through the early stages of brain cancer. Comprising of deeply personal portraits and landscapes, the show is a testament to the importance of making art as a means of processing and persevering, even in the most trying circumstances.
This event is completely free to attend. Any donations are gratefully accepted to support our bursary fund, inspire young people through outreach programmes, maintain our historic buildings, supply high-quality materials and specialist equipment for every course, and sustain an inclusive learning environment for all.
