Transform photographs into structured, tonal collages using pattern, proportion and simplified form.
The workshop will begin with the introduction of a diagonal scaling method, allowing you to accurately alter the size of existing images without having to measure. Working from your chosen image, you will use patterned, hand-made or printed papers to map areas of light and dark. The focus will be on the structure of your composition, developing your awareness of tonal analysis and the painterly potential of collage.
Looking to artists such as Pierre Bonnard and Georges Seurat for inspiration, you will develop a keen sensitivity to analysing tone rather than detail, creating carefully structured images which can be taken further into more sustained painting or printmaking processes.
