Engage with the world around you through observation, attention and reflection.
Inspired by artists and thinkers including Francis Alÿs, Kate Foster, Angelica Mesiti, and Anna Tsing who explore environmental themes, this workshop will encourage you to slow down and attune to everyday details which are often overlooked.
With exercises both inside and outside the studio, the tutor will guide you through engaging with an unfamiliar place as an artist, recording relevant visual and non-visual information and generating artistic ideas through your gathered research. You’ll develop a sensitivity to your surroundings, recording your observations through notes, drawings and other forms of documentation.
Ending the day with reflection and discussion, you will have gathered a strong body of research ready to be developed further in your own practice.
