A two-day workshop focussed on narrative figure painting in oils.
Working from direct observation of two clothed models, students on this workshop will explore how a narrative relationship can emerge through the use of composition, form and expressive colour choices.
The workshop will begin with a discussion of various artists, including Fra Angelico and Paula Rego, who explore the theme of the ‘conversation piece’. With hands-on demonstrations and individual guidance throughout, you will investigate a variety of two-person configurations before settling into a larger, sustained oil painting.
Over the weekend, you will have strengthened your understanding of constructing narrative figure paintings, while gaining the confidence to embrace expressive and imaginative interpretations of what you see.
All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.
