Discover how everyday experiences can be transformed into compelling visual narratives using comics.

This workshop introduces you to the art of autobiographical comics, where you will explore personal stories and how they can be communicated visually.

The workshop begins with an overview of graphic storytelling, drawing inspirations from graphic novelists such as Alison Bechdel, Posy Simmonds, Lynda Barry and Luke Healy. You will experiment with a series of playful, structured exercises using simple drawing materials, exploring how image and text can interact to create meaning.

With supportive guidance from the tutor, you will use your new-found comics skills to develop your personal narrative voice. You’ll leave the course with new techniques for generating fresh ideas, and a four-panel autobiographical comic.
