Course Staff

A two-day introduction to weaving on a simple frame loom.

Working from a favourite painting or personal image, we’ll explore how to translate colour and texture into a small woven textile. Through demonstrations and hands-on experimentation, we’ll learn simple weave structures, knotting techniques and ways of manipulating wefts such as yarn, fabric, ribbons, raffia and wire to create a variety of textures and effects.

We’ll take inspiration from the work of contemporary tapestry weavers such as Jane Browne and Claire Cooper-Walsh, as well as the textile designs of Bernat Klein. With one-to-one guidance throughout, we’ll each develop our own designs and learn how to translate colour, proportion and texture into our woven pieces.

Suitable for complete beginners and more experienced makers alike, students on this welcoming course will each create a small, unique textile piece.

All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.

NB: Please note that all work must be taken home at the end of the course due to limited storage.
