Build confidence experimenting with abstract painting processes.

During this week-long course, we will spend each day docusing on a different mode or process of abstraction: working from our own images, adding materials, substracting materials and using collage.

We will discuss modern and contemporary abstract artists such as Agnes Martin, Ellsworth Kelly, Callum Innes and Hilma Af Klint. Using key concepts from these artists as starting points, we’ll experiment with different painting processes while incorporating personal elements into our own work.

There will be a focus on using familiar materials innovatively: applying, removing and manipulating them, encouraging us to break away from conventional image making. We’ll spend the final day creating a more resolved piece which combines the processes explored throughout the week.

All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.

NB: The course culminates in an informal exhibition of the week’s work, ending at 5.30pm on the final day.
