Course Staff

A practical exploration of colour theory.

During this week-long course, we’ll look at the history of colour theories, the science of colour and light, and the behaviour of pigments and mediums. We’ll break these subjects down into accessible chunks, while drawing on the work of Joseph Albers and contemporary artists such as Caroline Walker, Amy Sillman and Ingrid Calame.

With a hands-on and practical approach to colour mixing, we’ll experiment with a variety of materials, including collage, oil paint, acrylic paint and pastels. In the latter part of the course, there will be the option to work on a more self-directed project, such as a series of further experimental studies or a more resolved final piece.

This course is suitable for anyone from complete beginners to those looking to gain a deeper understanding of the role of colour within their artistic practice.

All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.

NB: The course culminates in an informal exhibition of the week’s work, ending at 5.30pm on the final day.
