Connect with the environment through observational drawing and sustained painting.
Day one takes place at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, which provides a lush and inspiring surrounding for observational sketching. Using dry materials, we’ll focus on developing our visual responses to nature and experimenting with creative ways to record what we see.
On day two, we’ll be back in the studio where we’ll develop small colour studies and a more sustained acrylic painting based on our observational work. We’ll explore colour, rhythm and form, gaining confidence in translating sketches made on location into studio paintings.
Relevant artists include Adrian Berg, Emil Nolde, Marianne North, Abel Rodriguez, Victoria Crowe and Mary Tonkin.
All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.
NB: The course culminates in an informal exhibition of the week’s work, ending at 5.30pm on the final day.
