Taking inspiration from Morandi’s still life paintings, this course explores composition, negative space and subtle colour mixing.
This three-day course begins with us working in small groups to create still life setups inspired by Morandi. From these, we’ll create a series of preparatory drawings focussing on composition, negative space and tone.
These studies then lead on to our wipe-away oil paintings, where we’ll develop our understanding of the relationship between tone, negative space and positive form.
There will be a tutor-led demonstration on complex colour mixing, allowing us to imbue our final oil paintings with subtlety, reminiscent of the work of Morandi.
