This course is perfect for Young Artists who want to get stuck in to a big, messy, hands-on art project.
On this five-day course, we’ll go from inventing characters to making wearable cardboard masks and headpieces, to building a group installation from all of our cardboard creations. The installation will feel like a carnival – an amazing escape from everyday life where we can build our own space filled with superhuman alter egos, fantastic animals and fairytale folk (and not a screen in sight!).
With our cardboard creatures filling the centre of the studio, we’ll make imaginative and surreal drawings and paintings inspired by this shared world.
Throughout the week, we’ll be taught by a dedicated tutor and studio assistant, who’ll be in the studio every day helping to bring our ideas to life. To get some inspiration before this Summer School, we can look at the work of Michel Gondry, Isabel & Alfredo Aquilizan and Laurence Vallières.
All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.
NB: The course culminates in an informal exhibition of the week’s work, ending at 5.30pm on the final day.
