Develop mixed media problem-solving skills to confidently create oil-based figure paintings.
The week will begin with observational drawing from the life model, helping us to gain an understanding of the structure of the figure and its relationship to the surrounding space.
With encouraging support from the tutor, we will translate our observational studies into expressive, layered work using mixed media. Line, tone, colour, space, pattern, rhythm, texture, shape, form and composition will all be considered, paying close attention to how we can use these elements to play with ambiguity and tension within our work. We will then use the week’s discoveries to help create a more sustained painting in oils.
Throughout the week, we will be guided by the work of a range of artists, from Da Vinci and Cezanne to Njideka Akunyili Crosby and Deborah Roberts.
All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.
NB: The course culminates in an informal exhibition of the week’s work, ending at 5.30pm on the final day.
