Edinburgh is home to many unique landscapes that provide rich inspiration for artistic exploration.
During this week-long course, students will explore how to work directly from observation and develop a series of pieces in a range of media. The week begins with an illustrated talk before the group heads out on location to produce lively sketches and research notes. Back in the studio on the second day, we’ll explore composition with trace monotype and prepare painted grounds for the week ahead.
The remainder of the week will be spent moving from limited-palette and mixed media studies into full-colour paintings and more resolved works. Throughout the course, we will consider how to build a series over time, develop ideas in stages and explore key aspects of colour theory.
All core materials and equipment included. Concession rates are available for those in receipt of income-assessed benefits.
NB: The course culminates in an informal exhibition of the week’s work, ending at 5.30pm on the final day.
