This two-day course encourages students to deepen their understanding of their own creative practice through a combined approach to writing and painting.
In a supportive and reflective studio environment you will be introduced to a range of contemporary art writings and, using both practical and written exercises, re-look at your own practice with fresh eyes.
Through group discussions, guided readings, and practical exercises, we’ll explore how writing can act as a tool for reflection. We’ll look at contemporary thinkers such as Jane Bennett, David Joselit, Isabelle Graw, and James Elkins, helping us to explore our place within the field of contemporary art.
By the end of the workshop, you will have developed a series of short written pieces along with a selection of drawing and painting studies that reflect your creative interests and processes. Ideal for artists and writers looking to progress their professional development and gain confidence in communicating their practice for funding applications, exhibitions, residencies or further study.
